Jezroc Metal Works Blog

Description of my blog

Our friends at Fetch Dog Resort are sponsoring a seminar with Jean Donaldson June 13-14th, 2009 here in Indianapolis, In.  You can find the agenda and registration form on their site.  We are looking forward to this event with our friends!

Thank you to the group of smiths that allowed us to come and enjoy the day of hammering iron. And an extra thanks to Melvin for sweating through a Saturday morning for our entertainment and education.

At the Indy Dog Show a few weeks back, we were privileged enough to have met a member of the Rural Smiths of Mid America who opened the door for us to join this great group of smiths as a guest at their March gathering.

We arrived at the shop at around 9am and didn't leave until some time around 3:30 or later. I really don't remember as my mind was reeling form everything we had seen throughout the day. It was pretty amazing to watch as Melvin hammered the material into various shapes to create a pair of tongs in the morning and an axe head after lunch. Here he is contemplating his next move although I have a feeling the next move was thought about several minutes ago.

We weren't there very long before it became obvious that Melvin was very good at what he was doing. The comments from the group like, "Ha, he sure makes it look easy doesn't he?", led me to believe that should I pursue Blacksmithing, I can expect to make some mangled pieces of scrap before I make anything resembling a tool or art.

After spending the day with the Rural Smiths of Mid-America, I believe we have been bitten by the bug and will be looking to set up a forge in the future. We look forward to meeting with the group again and eventually incorporating our own forged components in our gates.

Jezroc Dog Gate Review of the week!

Works great as a baby gate... YES!

Works Great as a dog gate... YES!

Is impervious to grape jelly... YES!

 Corrals the parakeets...  NO WAY!

Well, three out of four isn't bad.  We'll work on the parakeet containment for you Don.  ; )

We're so pleased you are happy with your new monogramed custom gate!  Let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.  Thank you for your wonderfully colorful review!
